Dock Repair Work Party

Thanks to our volunteers: Lou Vedro, Norm Phillips, Keith Michalak, Glen Boe, Carl Miller, Gene Schlichtman, George Richter, Bill Ross, Fred Hundhammer and Gregory Absten.

We Banged! We Screwed! We drilled! and Drank! - "got-er-done" though!

Lou Vedro hard at work screwing in planks.
We think the 10 volunteers set a new record at the Yacht Club, for screwing more than 2,350 times in the half day work party!

Norm Philips.

We used LOTS OF SCREWS! - 50 Pounds worth!
Plus copper strapping for pipes under the decks, and a couple new planks.

Gene Schlichtman screwing away.

I can't tell whose butts these are.

.... these either.

The crew worked hard and really got more done that I thought we would. We screwed every plank in the entire marina, banged every nail head, and strapped our pipes under the docks so they were hangin good!

These are the decking screws we put in every plank on every stringer. The original nails were plain nails that just rusted and were all coming loose. We banged down all the loose heads after tightening each plank with a good screw.

Of course we needed a keg of beer to do all that screwing!
(In reality though it was so hot and we worked so hard that we mostly drank ice water and sodas. The rest of the beer is going to the fun fleet cruise)

We actually replaced only a couple of planks - the rest were in pretty good shape, though we did identify a few more that may be replaced shortly.

We used Greg & Lisa's dinghy to get under the docks and work on the support strapping for the pipes.

How's it Hangin!?
The septic pipes look a lot better here after being restrapped that before when they were drooping low (below).

The same pipes seen above, as they were drooping in Jan 2004. These are septic pipes for the pumpouts - We surely don't want to see these break!
