Here are some of the seasonal and
transient boat and member photos
May 2004
Winds haven't stopped yet! What's the deal? May is supposed to be
the start of Bahamas cruising.
- Lots of visiting boats this month -
(If you want a copy of any of these photos,
just "right click" on it, then choose the "save as" command and save to a place
on your computer)
Sans Souci - May 08
Coming from North around the cape in 15-20 knot winds.

Came in on one prop - did a great job and

Miss Dee - Sarasota
Here's a classic lesson in seamanship (or lack thereof) that
happens continually at the public launch ramp beside the Club. Boaters cast
off immediately after starting their engines without letting them warm up
first. Then when they put it in gear the engine stalls and they have a hard
time restarting. When the winds are from the East, as they are here, then
the boats get blown up onto the rocks just outside the channel. LESSON?
Allow your engine(s) to warm up first before casting off from the dock.
"Mar Lin" - left & right
This is a serious fishing boat - out every morning before 7am
to fish, then back to the Club each afternoon during their stay. Had some
bad fuel problems when they arrived, but got that straightened up.
Wild Willy (green Bimini) gets to mount his engine on the
dinghy today.
Back from the Bahamas and enroute to Naples. The
hassle of course, is now having to drive down to Key West to check in with
Customs and Immigration. (You know -- if these FCYC members really were
terrorists, don't you think they would have done something between when they
arrived yesterday and driving to Key West today? -- and do you really think
that if they were terrorists that they would even bother checking in?
My recommendation is to allow US Citizens who have their boat customs
sticker to call for a check in as usual without showing up in person. If
they were going to lie or smuggle in an alien there is nothing to keep them
from doing that anyway - sending the illegal alien off on their own
without even telling the government. There is nothing to lose in terms of
security risk, and it would significantly free up customs & immigration.
How many in your party please? We have a table waiting.
